Thorpe Top Treble Lock Loop from Shireoaks 7.5 miles
Another chance to enjoy this walk led by David. The route included the Chesterfield canal (Cuckoo Dyke) and the ancient Anston Stones Wood, site of special scientific interest. This limestone woodland is home to a very pretty gorge created in the last glacial period and where they found Dead Man’s Hole. Excavated in the 1960’s it revealed ancient flint tools and bones from the ice age.

Denton Reservoir and Grantham Canal 7.5 miles
A walk from the pretty Lincolnshire village of Denton. It went through a tree lined path to Denton Reservoir before joining the towpath of the Grantham Canal. Alan then led them along the canal towards Harlaxton Wharf and then Woolsthorpe Wharf. A particularly attractive part of the canal. They returned to Denton along a disused railway track concluding with a short stretch of road walking. A relatively flat walk with a slight incline towards the end.

Car Colston Kneeton 8.3 miles
Steve lead a group of about 15 of us on an 8 mile circular route starting from Royal Oak on Car Colston Green. Going across meadows and ploughed fields to Kneeton. Then down a steep hill to the River Trent. Following the Trent for a while we then walked up Green Lane to East Bridgford where we used tracks and roads back to Car Colston. Lots of beautiful views over Trent Valley and beyond. We saw heavy rain in the distance, but luckily we only got slightly wet in a short lived downpour. Phil went AWOL for a large part of the walk although we caught up with him later. A few of us had drinks back at the pub in the sunshine, which was very pleasant.

Flawborough Staunton and Kilvington Lakes 5 miles
The walk visited Kilvington Lakes, former gypsum workings, where there were a variety of water birds. The route also included the church at Staunton in the Vale, where there is a Lancaster air crash memorial.
Maggie led the group and left this report: “28 of us set out from Flawborough today and I'm pretty sure that there were still 28 at the end, thanks to my back marker. Getting everyone over the stiles took a while, but we enjoyed a good walk with a coffee stop at the church in Staunton, and the weather stayed fine.”
