SUNDAY 5th July

Steam Train Quorn 9 miles

A return visit to the Great Central Railway for a short ride on a steam train from Quorn & Woodhouse Station to the next station at Rothley. Izzie led the walk back mainly through woods and fields but with some road walking. The villages en route, Rothley, Cropston and Woodhouse Eaves were quite interesting.

WEDNESDAY 8th July

Beckingham Barnby in the Willows

Tony led the way and left this report: Ten of us took to the sun drenched tracks and fields of Lincolnshire. Soon after the start we came across the ‘torso' of a male manikin. Don’t find many of them about.? Before we hit Barnby we saw several hare’s running across the fields. We stopped near Barnby church for a “coffee" stop and then on the other side of the village for a lunch break later on. The hedgerow 's where full of butterfly’s and the surface of the River Witham was covered with dozens of dragonflies. During the walk we had quite a few stops to ‘take on drinks.

Collingham to Newark Pilgrimage 8.5 miles

Paul led the pilgrimage from the Collingham Station to the Cross and then via 4 church buildings in Collingham. They continued down to Langford and Holme and through Winthorpe and into north Newark via St Leonard's, Wellspring Baptist, North End Methodist and St Mary's before returning to the station. The route is designed for all who enjoying walking, are interested in local history, and local church history. Paul is developing a further pilgrimage route with St Mary Magdalene from Lincoln. John J. commented Great Walk! Nan Scott's Chamber in Holme Church very interesting.

SUNDAY 12th July

A short walk from Elston 5.2 miles

Thanks to Maggie for leading a second walk in early July. She left this report: There were thirteen of us today (plus one dog) on the walk. It was hot, but a bit less so than recent days and at least there was some breeze. We were able to have our coffee stop at Elston Old Chapel which was new to some of the group and nice and cool inside. The walk was a short (5.2 miles) figure of eight from Elston. It went through Stoke Fields Farm and also used some recently added footpaths.
