Cuckney and Warsop 8.2 miles

A regular route for us this time led by David. The walk started in the lovely village of Cuckney with its 12th Century church and the historic Greendale Oak public house. The walk continued through Norton to Church Warsop with its imposing parish church of St Peter and St Paul. This village is also home to The Carr’s Nature Reserve. Jacqui commented: It was a good walk, although cold and wet but not too muddy

WEDNESDAY 14th January

Newark Places of Worship 5.4 miles

Paul and Rosemary led this extended version of the very interesting walk on the morning of our AGM. Newark has a fascinating range of historic places of worship. This walk took in the vast majority of them. Starting at Newark Castle Station it proceeded through the town centre, out to the Cemetery and Polish War Memorial, back via Sconce Park and Millgate to the centre of town. The walk also visited a number of other non-ecclesiastical historic points around the town. The walk was entirely on pavements. Sue said that she really enjoyed the walk.

Around Welbourn 5.8 miles

A frosty and bright morning, so the usual mud we were expecting was frozen. Indeed, our boots were clean at the end. Tony led a group of 20 and reported: After several days of 'RAIN' we had a fine dry day for our walk. Basically, we circumnavigated Welbourn. Starting off at 'Castle Hill' now only a mound of earth. The original castle built around 700 years ago is gone. (Now park land). - most of the limestone used to build those ancient buildings was taken over the years to build cottages in the village. Walking away to the west of the village over several fields we came back to Welbourn. We then climbed up the Lincoln Edge. Walking along the top (with some great views) we descended back to our start. The Lincoln Edge (Cliff) is approx. 50 miles long. Starting near the Humber it goes to the south end of Grantham. The ridge is mainly made up of Jurassic limestone.
