SUNDAY 16h August

East Stoke Battlefield 3.2 miles

Roy led this walk on the East Stoke battlefield. It was the last major battle of the war of the Roses in June 1487and was Nottinghamshire's largest and bloodiest battle. The group were accompanied on the walk by Kevin Winter the local expert on the battle. It was a short walk with frequent stops to view the field of conflict.

Stroll in Sherwood 5.5 miles

Joyce led this stroll through the quieter parts of Sherwood Forest returning via Archway and the River Maun.

Cresswell Crags 7.2 miles

After leaving the Dukeries Garden Centre 13 walkers headed for Cresswell Crags and did a circular walk around the Craggs in pleasant weather conditions. We then walked to the small but picturesque village of Belph. Unfortunately, at this stage Bob (walk leader) had to leave the group after becoming ill. Fellow walkers made their way over fields to the Welbeck Estate where lunch was taken by South Lodge under the shade of trees. In the distance we could see welcome rain & hoped we could return to our cars before it reached us. No such luck! !5 minutes from the end everyone began digging into their rucksacks for our waterproofs as the rain & wind caught up! However, it had eased a little by the time we returned to our cars Our return to the garden centre took us over the “Skylight Tunnels” on the Robin Hood Way. The tunnels were built by The Duke of Portland in the early 19th Century, enabling un-detected to ride horse back to Worksop train station and commute to London by train!

SUNDAY 23rd August

Belvoir Castle Circular 6.5 miles

Another opportunity to walk around Belvoir Castle area. This time getting some good views. Alan set off from Woolsthorpe-By-Belvoir and walked through fields to Belvoir Castle. They then joined the Jubilee Way before dropping down to the lovely villages of Knipton and Harston.

WEDNESDAY 26th August

Bridges along the Trent from Holme Pierrepont 5 miles

Nottingham’s newest bridge, Waterside Bridge, has finally opened. Carol led this easy walk from Holme Pierrepont walking along the River Trent towards Nottingham checking out some of the bridges along the way before finding the new one and returning back.

Surprise View Barrowby 6 miles

Thanks to John for this walk and his photos They followed footpaths, which included arable and pasture field margins, farm tracks and a short stretch of road through this attractive village of Barrowby. There were panoramic views across Lincolnshire and of Belvoir Castle. The walk also included a pretty section of the Grantham Canal and a circuit of Denton Reservoir.
