Belvoir, Sconce and Meden

SUNDAY 12th October

Belvoir Castle 6.5 miles

Congratulations. to Alan for finally leading his first walk for us. The first attempt was rained off. It was not much better this time, but several members braved the conditions and were rewarded with sunshine in late morning. They started in Woolsthorpe-By-Belvoir and walked through fields to Belvoir Castle, subsequently joining the Jubilee Way before dropping down to the lovely villages of Knipton and Harston. A significant part of this walk was along quiet roads.

A Meander along the Meden 8 miles

The walk began in historic Church Warsop, already commemorating Armistice Day with the display in front of the Church. James led us south down the banks of the River Meden before stopping for an early coffee in the Children’s Playground in Market Warsop. We crossed this old mining town before heading uphill past a large pig farm and into to Sherwood Forest where we found a good spot for our lunch. We continued our loop picking up the Meden again in Meden Vale which we basically followed back to our start, noticing a a couple of attractive stone farmhouses on the way. A dull day, compared to Jame’s recce, but a good walk
