SUNDAY 18th May
Firbeck and Roche Abbey 8 miles.
Tony led the group and reported as follows: -
On another fine Sunday, 11 of us walked the rolling countryside from Firbeck, through Laughton- en-le Morthen and then through the Roche Abbey Estate. The old Abbey ruins were magnificent. The Abbey was founded in 1147 by an order of the Cistercian monks.

WEDNESDAY 21st May
Stathern 7 miles
Allister repeated this walk along the Stathern Edge which he led in May 2022. A much better day this time. From Belvoir Castle they went up the quiet road to the bridleway and then towards the forest. They walked along the gentle undulating escarpment on the forest paths. They continued to the vantage point (Spanish Armada Beacon) and then onward to the end of the forest before turning and coming back to the Castle via the lower path coming which led to the Engine Yard.

THURSDAY 22nd May
Belper Duffield 6 miles
A train ride to Belper, then a pleasant walk to Duffield before returning by train to Newark Castle station. Carol led the way from the historic town of Belper through open country with superb views. The River Derwent flows through the town which was famous for iron and nail making and then later Cotton Spinning. There were two steady climbs en-route to Duffield, also an interesting historical town. Duffield Castle was reputedly the third largest Norman castle in the country but would only stand until 1266 when it was destroyed by King Henry III. All that remains today are the foundations
