Doddington, Colston Bassett and Air Ambulance walk

SUNDAY 23rd March

Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance Charity Walk

“In celebration of 30 years of our work across Lincs and Notts, we invite you to join us on Sunday 23 March and Walk ‘Side By Side’ through the picturesque landscapes of Sherwood Pines, Nottinghamshire.”

There was no organised Ramblers group walk but several of our group joined up with this Side by Side Walk. Izzie tracked the route and sent the following comment: This is more-or-less our walk to join today's air ambulance walk. The odd loop away from the pond was us failing to find all of an alternative route back to the car park in Vicars Water - it abruptly ended, and we slithered down a precipitous slope to avoid a back-track!

WEDNESDAY 26th March

Doddington Harby 5 miles

Carol led a large group on a circular walk in Spring Sunshine from Doddington to Harby and back. Harby is a sleepy village on the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire border with a relatively unremarkable history other than the death of Queen Eleanor here in 1290. Eleanor of Castile was the wife of King Edward I, and between 1291 and 1294 he had crosses erected at each of the stopping points between Lincoln and her final resting place in London.

Kinoulton Colston Bassett 5.5 miles

Julie H led a small group of us on a delightful circular walk from Kinoulton. The scenery was varied, fields, quiet roads and the pretty village of Colston Basset. We stopped for a break at ruins of Saint Mary's Church before returning back to Kinoulton via the Grantham canal. As always the company was excellent as was the weather.
