The Farnsfield Loop 4 miles.
Congratulations to Lisa for leading her first walk for us. They started from the lovely village of Farnsfield. They initially headed towards the Southwell Trail, a former railway line dating to 1842 and now adapted as a multi-use route for foot, cycle and horseback use. The trail is 7.5 miles long and passes Farnsfield Pumping Station, which was officially open in 1898 and is still in use today. The trail provided a welcome respite from the sun as it is covered by trees on both sides. They continued along the trail until reaching a crossroads and then took the path on the left hand side back over the fields into Farnsfield.

Caunton, Bathley, Norwell 7.5 miles
A regular undulating walk led by Roger giving good views all around from the higher points. Lincoln Cathedral was clearly visible on the horizon. A coolish start gradually getter hotter as the day wore on. We set off along the Beck which was still flowing despite all of this hot dry weather. The once open pasture just outside the Village is now fenced off in paddocks for numerous horses. The intermittent wooded areas certainly helped us keep cool. We continued through crops to Bathley where we had a welcome drink. Circuiting Bathley we came across a friendly horse with a foal. The leg to Norwell crossed differing terrain and a large grass field with sheep and lambs. We had lunch in Norwell next to the pinfold before covering the final 2 miles Back to Caunton.

WEDNESDAY 25h June
The River Trent from Elston 8 miles.
Maggie led the walkers along a new footpath in Elston, before going out of the village and down to the River Trent. A clear and sunny day, so good views. The walk then headed north beside the river until opposite Fiskerton, before returning to Elston via East Stoke. The route included part of the Battle of Stoke Field trail; it was mainly flat, with one quite steep downhill section. There was a coffee stop beside the river and a picnic lunch stop in East Stoke.

Fiskerton 5.5 miles
Julie led a short afternoon walk on the other side of the Trent. She commented: A lovely walk round three villages Fiskerton, Morton and Rolleston with a small group of ramblers. Perfect weather conditions, not too hot.

THURSDAY 26h June
Regents Canal London 6.7 miles
Carol and Judy guided us from the leafy tranquillity of Little Venice to the bold brutalism of the Barbican. We followed the Grand Union Canal, passing London Zoo and Camden Lock, before meandering through Islington, Clerkenwell, Chapterhouse Square, and Smithfield Market—a walk full of contrasts and character.
The trains to and from London ran smoothly—on time and reasonably uncrowded—and the Underground was equally efficient. The only hiccup was a brief but dramatic downpour at the start, which soaked us for five minutes before giving way to clearer skies and a perfect walking temperature.
