Nether Langwith Circular 7.3 miles.
Jim led this anti Clockwise walk from Nether Langwith. This is a pleasant, fairly flat walk exploring footpaths on the Nottinghamshire/ Derbyshire border. Once an industrial area that was dominated by the local pit at Whaley Thorns and earlier by cotton spinning using the water from the river Poulter. The route passes nearby Cuckney Wood and through Boon Hills wood to Langwith Junction. Clearly open pasture in places as the photo of the herd of Friesian cattle demonstrates. From Langwith junction the return was past the river Poulter.

WEDNESDAY 4th June
Southwell Orchid Walk 7.5 miles.
The annual orchid walk around Southwell attracted large numbers and welcomed back Mal P. as the leader. Starting from the Southwell Garden Centre in Fiskerton Road the walk toured part of the town before stopping for coffee in the Bishops Garden. Next stop was the Potwell Dyke Grasslands to admire the march orchids and buttercups. We the headed out of town and uphill via the Robin Hood way to Brackenhurst College Garden where we stopped for a relaxing lunch. The return was via the Brackenhurst Estate and Crink Lane. Afterwards many visited the Garden Centre for a “cuppa.”

Colliery Circuit from Pleasley 8.4 miles
A little further to travel to get to this walk in an old mining area led by Izzie. Starting from the Mining museum at Pleasley this circular walk also visited the old Silverhill Colliery spoil heap. It does not look like one any longer. It is one of the highest points in the county at 204.3 metres and supports a bronze statue of a kneeling miner. The route was mainly on the old railway trackways which supplied both collieries. Apparently, the display wall of bricks, are all marked with the makers name and once made in the area.
Izzie reported: We had a lovely walk. Very civilised - loos and cafe at beginning, coffee break and finish! With ice creams to refresh us after the walk!
