SUNDAY 26th January

Sutton on Trent 8.4 miles

Advertised as a farmland and woodland walk through three local villages, they only visited two due to the very muddy conditions on the proposed Moorhouses loop. James took them from Sutton on Trent via Grassthorpe to Weston and then back taking an extended loop around Sutton on Trent. The walk involved crossing the A1 and the main East Coast main line twice on the route.

WEDNESDAY 29th January

Up from Upton 4.5 miles

A group of us, led by Joyce, went for a very pleasant ramble from the village of Upton.
We started in the village, popping in to have a quick look at the church, up past Upton Hall, and on to the very pleasant countryside. There were some fine views, and though it was muddy in places. Near the end the way was blocked by a fallen tree, but Rob and his saw managed to sort that out. As always a fine time in great company.

Gunthorpe Burton Joyce 7.8 miles

Steve led the walk and advised that due to a temporary footpath closure from Bulcote church we were going to have to go into Burton Joyce and up Willow Wong and then a further steep lane to join our usual route above Bulcote. Starting from the riverside car park opposite the Unicorn Public House, we walked up the River Trent and then passed Bulcote Farm stopping in the village for a coffee before proceeding on our diversion. Bulcote Farm is a beautiful Edwardian farm built by Nottingham Corporation in1902. We returned down Lambley Lane with its beautiful modern architecture for a lunch stop in the children’s playground next to St Helens churchyard. After lunch we walked back along the Trent to Gunthorpe.
