WEDNESDAY 5th February
Flintham 5.5 miles
Maggie led a group of us on a delightful walk from Flintham, through the pretty village of Syerston where we stopped for coffee at the village hall. As it was the first Wednesday in the month there was coffee and cake available in the hall, a very welcome treat. We then went across the A46 to walk through the woods near the airfield before returning to Flintham. A lovely walk in excellent company.

South Lincoln 9.1 miles
A second showing of this walk previously completed on a Sunday. Chris was pleased to tell us that he had done the walk three times previously and this was the first time he would get the views from Lincoln Edge as this was the first time the sun was shining. Leaving Boultham Park we headed for the South Common and then up the hill to get onto Lincoln Edge. Good views over the City and Cathedral and then good views of the Trent Valley as we walked further along the “Edge”. A pleasant lunch stop with a display from the Red Arrows. What more could we want! We returned via Bracebridge and by the River Witham back to our start point, by this time the clouds had come back, and it was somewhat colder. Entering Boultham Park we came across three roe deer.

SUNDAY 9th February
Barlow 7.6 miles
A misty day but a good walk. Jim led the way on this Derbyshire outing. Starting from the pretty village of Barlow they headed for Barlow Common and then a steady climb up Peakley hill to Cartledge. The return skimmed the south side of Dronfield before passing through Cowley and Crowhole.

WEDNESDAY 12th February
Watchwood Plantation Calverton 4.1miles
A short walk adjacent to what used to be Calverton Colliery. A good turnout for this leisurely walk with Julie. The route took them along the various tracks and trails of the Watchwood Plantation in Calverton where there were lots of lovely pine trees. Calverton colliery was officially opened in 1950. During 41 years of operation, the colliery produced more than 31,500,000 tons of saleable coal. The colliery closed in 1995, and the site was cleared. Several of the group went to the “Patchings” art centre afterwards for lunch.

Long Bennington 7.5 miles
Dave led this 7.5 mile circular walk, starting outside St. Swithin’s church in Long Bennington It passed through Foston, and Westborough villages. The walk was mostly off road but included some of the Viking Way, and about three miles by the side of the river Witham. The river has several Fords and Weirs, including the infamous "Sids Weir"
