Kirklington and Kinoulton

WEDNESDAY 25th September

Kirklington 9 miles

Starting from the now defunct railway station at Kirklington Izzie took the group to Dukes Wood and the nodding donkey. Duke's Wood and the area around it was the location of the UK's first onshore oilfield. Some of the pumps - the 'nodding donkeys' - have been restored and are sited around the wood. The route continued towards Eakring before returning via Hexgrave Park and the Southwell Trail back to the start.

SUNDAY 29th September

Kinoulton Hickling 8.5 miles

Tony reported:

On a fine Sunday morning 13 members started this walk from Kinoulton   - climbing Kinoulton Hill along tracks and grassy field verges to   Hickling. We ascended to the top of Hickling Standard Hill and had a slightly breezy lunch stop - looking over the vast vista before us. Returning downhill, we walked up to the Hickling Basin and picked up the Grantham canal path back to Kinoulton.
