SUNDAY 9th JUNE
River Trent and the Marnhams
A walk from Sutton-on-Trent to Grassthorpe and the Marnhams, returning via the riverbank. James led the walk and reported that the route was somewhat compromised by a wonky footbridge and some difficulties in the open field crossings. They called at the Brownlow Arms where they were greeted by the friendly landlord.

WEDNESDAY 12th JUNE
Orston, Whatton and Aslockton 5.7 miles
Maggie started from Orston with a group of 20, following the south side of the River Smite and over Blackberry Hill. They eventually reached St John of Beverley Parish Church Whatton for a coffee stop. The church is medieval, dating from the 14th century. They continued over the railway line to Aslockton (birthplace of Thomas Cranmer). The return route followed the opposite bank of the River Smite with a lunch stop just prior to the end of the walk.

Upton Kelham 10 miles
Izzie set off at a good pace on this supposed 9-mile walk. A figure of eight on footpaths and tracks from Upton involving more contours than usual for Notts! The pepper pots of Southwell Minster were just visible to the west. After passing the racing stables in Averham Park we had a coffee stop on an available grass bank. We continued around Kelham Hills before heading back. A decent lunch stop was difficult to find but eventually we did chance upon a fallen tree stump which accommodated most of us. We returned to Upton through the racing stables and over Mickelbarrow Hill. A good walk of 10 miles in total leaving us all somewhat tired.

THURSDAY 13th JUNE
Pie Walk at Farndon approx 3 miles
Thanks to Steve and Andrea for once again organising this evening supper walk around Farndon Riverside and nature reserves. This time we all enjoyed excellent pie and chips on the moored boat at the Marina afterwards. Unfortunately, we had to put up with intermittent light rain which did not spoil our enjoyment of the evening.
