Villages on the edge 8.1 miles
Joyce led the walk from Claypole in Lincolnshire back across the Shire Dyke to the Nottinghamshire villages of Fernwood and Balderton, thence up to Barnby in the Willows ( still Notts) and back to Claypole. There was a little urban walking but mainly fields, tracks and woodland but also a couple of tricky bridges, some stiles and some rough undergrowth. It looks like they also encountered cows and several excited ponies.

WEDNESDAY 31st JULY
Vicars Water 5.8 miles
A group of us led by Sue C walked from the care park at Vicars Water through the countryside around the village of Clipstone. There was lots of interest to see, the headstocks at the former Clipstone colliery and the ruinsof what might have been one of King John's palaces. The countryside, specially in the country park was delightful too. As always so nice to be out in the fresh air with such a group of friendly people that are the Newark Ramblers.

A walk-through lovely countryside around Southwell, also discovering the time warp village of Halloughton. There were long views of Southwell Minster on the return via the well maintained Brackenhurst gardens.
