THURDAY 10th JULY
Mountsorrel Quorn Linear 6 miles
Something a bit different today. First a ride on a heritage railway followed by a pleasant walk. The group met at Quorn and Woodhouse Railway Station on the restored Great Central Railway. Part of LNER it was closed down in 1969 but exists today thanks to a group of determined volunteers. They travelled to Mountsorrel Station and had a look around the visitor centre before starting the walk which returned to Quorn via Swithland reservoir crossing the tracks in two places.
The leader Izzie said: It went very well. It even stayed dry! We had a good look around at Mountsorrel- but more to see than we had time for. And had bacon butties for lunch before setting off!

SUNDAY 14h JULY
High Peak Riber 7.1 miles 525 metres elevation
Bob led the way and reported: The group of 15 walkers left High Peak Junction near Cromford in pleasant weather conditions. This is close to where Florence Nightingale spent time in her early years on her father's estate of Lea Hurst. There are various references to the Nightingale family on our walk. We walked through Bow wood before taking in lovely views of the Derbyshire countryside, and over to Riber where a coffee stop was taken. After our coffee stop in Riber village, we headed east towards Dethick where lunch was taken All suitably refreshed we headed off towards Lea and through Holloway before turning west and walking near to Lea Hurst and then into Lea Wood before arriving at our starting point
Jacqui commented: It was a great walk and good company. We only had a mild sprinkling of rain after lunch. Scenery was amazing. Highly recommend it

WEDNESDAY 17th JULY
Flintham Syerston 7.2 miles
Some 25 plus walkers turned out for the only walk that was available today. It was ably led by Dave R. The basically flat circular route started from Flintham and headed initially to Syerston before circling back adjacent to the A46 and through Flintham Hall Estate grounds. Flintham Hall (listed grade I) in its present form is as remodelled by T C Hine for T B T Hildyard in 1853/7 in an Italianate style, encasing earlier buildings.
